The first introductory online course on the Art of Sustainable Perfumery was a great success!

Day 1 : A list of around twenty prominent names from the fragrance industry are conducting sessions throughout this week for more than thirty #students from the industry and leading research/academic institutions in India.

Day 2 of our introductory online course on the Art of Sustainable Perfumery moved from theory to practice, with a hands-on smelling session. We sent a kit to participants allowing them to smell different fragrance ingredients, with expert perfumers providing guidance.

Tuesday's sessions included a session on the IFRA Standards, our safe use program, with IFRA Vice President Scientific Affairs Dr Matthias Vey, and a perfumer's perspective on regulation with Thierry Audibert.

What is a 'fragrance brief', and how do you respond to it? This was the topic of Day 3 of our introductory online course on the Art of Sustainable Perfumery.

After another invigorating 'smelling session' with perfumers Jean-Charles Mignon, subramanian Iyer and Santosh Shinde, participants were taken through the basics of a fragrance brief - a document setting out the needs of a client looking for a scent to add to their consumer products.

Joelle Dirringer outlined the process from start to finish, including how we understand clients' and consumers' needs, and how to respond to a brief. The role of evaluation, focusing in particular on fabric care, and fine fragrances and personal care, were discussed by Vidula Birwadkar of International Flavors & Fragrances and Moushami Teredesai of Robertet Group.

Thursday's fourth day has some deep-dives on specific topics, including perfumer-creator ethics, retail, fine fragrance brand stories, and soaps in India.

Friday sees the final day, with a graduation ceremony for attendees.
